The YMCA in Watertown wants a chunk of the state grant the city won this past fall.
The Downtown Revitalization Grant of $10 million is earmarked for Public Square-area projects only. And the Y, which has two locations in the city, wants to take $2 million of that funding to go toward a $14 million new aquatic and wellness center to go on Court Street.
The Y would pay for the rest of the project through its own capital fundraising efforts.
Meanwhile, according to 7 News, that's just one of the potential projects for the money, with others including upgrading the Masonic Temple and the Best Western--both located on Washington Street.
The deadline for officials to submit final proposals to the state for approval is March 15.
